The sirens travelled down to Wass way for our shortest trip of the season and the game kicked off in perfect conditions for rugby. The game ebbed and flowed for the opening couple of minutes until P.Boylen pounced on a yarm handling error on the half way line kicked the ball through a few times and a fortuitous bounce landed in her hands for her to race away and score. Try converted by M.Bryce. 0-7
The opening try was somewhat of an oddity for the Sirens who in the two previous games have had to defend for the opening 15 minutes or so. Then came the yarm pressure and their strong scrum and big ball carrying forwards who drove down the pitch, picked and went numerous times and dotted down under the posts 7-7.
This kickstarted the sirens into life. The forwards showed their strength and power and combined with the backs then a brilliant pick and go resulted in H.Hodgson carrying it over the line. Converted by M.Bryce 7-14.
At this point the sirens were well on top. I.Slavin broke the line from 50 metres out to only be denied by the yarm Hill and a great recovery tackle. Then the half finished with another opportunistic try for P.Boylen to race away from defenders from her own half.
HT 7-19
The second half was a showcase of how to manage a game and play to conditions. Redcar had the hill in the second half and every time yarm came at the sirens M.Bryce would just pin them back in there own 22 with some lovely kicking. No points were scored in the second half.
FT 7-19.
A fantastic performance against a really good yarm team. Next Sunday the sirens are at home to Richmondshire in their first development game of the season.
