?sirens head to Consett after upper eden was a washout?

The sirens league game against Upper Eden was a washout due to a yellow weather warning but luckily Consett cobras were able to host the Sirens.

After a frantic morning of firstly Upper Eden postponing our league game and then picking up a friendly game at Consett, a 20 minute warm up & a rushed start to the game seen the Sirens settled into the game from early on.

In truth the Sirens rarely got out of third gear in the game against Consett but scored a pick and go try from fullback Mcmahon at the base of the ruck from 1 metre out 0-5.

Next a multi phase attack which Foy kicked over the top and a fortuitous bounce sent the ball down the pitch for it to stop in the in goal area and Boylen to race past the would be defenders to dot down. 0-10.

The next was more of the same comfortable Siren possession and a kick through by Bryce which resulted in a couple of control kicks by Boylen to score her second try 0-15

The game then became abit scrappy. Consett tried to punch holes in the defense with strong one up runners but the sirens held firm & whenever the sirens got the ball the wind played havoc for the sirens trying to get the ball through the hands to the speedsters.
Then a moment of brilliance from scrum half Sills. A tiring Consett defense left gaps around the ruck for her to snipe from the 22m line and weave her way past a couple of players to score under the posts. Converted by Bryce 0-22.

What happened next is a mystery. Some strong running from the forwards and multiple offloads in the tackles seen Johnson crash over the line 0-27 BUT the referee then blew his whistle and awarded a penalty to Consett for a hand off to the face. 0-22 we think. Then on the last play of the game the sirens switched off and gave a scrum free kick away noone reacted and the 9 tapped and went resulting in Consetts forwards crashing over the line in the 4th phase. 5-22 or 5-27.

Full time. Consett posted a result of 5-27 so an early present for Johnson and her try tally.

A good final game of 2025 for the sirens. Another away victory where we weren't at our best in tricky conditions. Next up is a really tough challenge against table topping durham dragons on 11th january at home.
