? Sirens silence resurgent Ravens?
On a cold, wet typical Redcar afternoon the Sirens hosted Richmondshire in their first development game of the season. Last season these games were two ding dong physical battles and today was no different.
The game kicked off and Richmondshire struck first with a solo run from their pacey 12 to score under the post 0-7. This sparked a little life into Redcar and they worked their way up the field, a couple of pick and go's later and number 8 S.Cowley crashed over the line. Converted by M.Bryce 7-7. Uncharacteristically the Sirens decided to throw away their usually effective game plan and give Richmondshire the arm wrestle they craved and the next score came from Redcar which more pick and go's resulting in S.Cowley crashing over the whitewash to score, converted by M.Bryce HT 14-7.
The second half resulted in more of the same until a few passes wide after multiple phases which flanker C.Pressley sprinted down the wing from 15 metres out to score in the corner 19-7. Richmondshires never say die attitude carried on and they got the next score 19-14. This spurred the visitors on but the Sirens weren't finished. A uncontested scrum on Richmondshires 5m was picked by D.Gavigan at 8 and carried strongly over the line. Converted by M.Bryce 26-14 then a moment of individual brilliance from M.Bryce to kick the ball over the top and regather and score which she converted also, 33-14. But it was Richmondshire that had the last say in the game. Poor tackling from Redcar allowed the visitors to score under the posts FT 33-19.
A good physical test against a gritty, physical Richmondshire team. Lots to work on before returning to league action in 2 weeks away to Ripon.
