Valiant Effort From Redcar But Shields Too Strong
By Dave Pearson
Redcar suffered another defeat but not lacking effort and showed good heart.
Redcar travelled away to North Shields expecting a tough encounter with the team who were 2nd in the league and so it proved. Redcar started the game very strong and played at a fast tempo and struck first when flyhalf Brad Stovell threw a lovely miss pass to centre Matty Curry who broke through and evaded the home defence to score, 0 – 5.
Redcar suffered a setback after 20 mins, when hooker Cian Briggs was high tackled and the game was stopped for a long time whilst he received treatment and unfortunately his game was over and he had to leave the field. Redcar then became their own worst enemy, giving away numerous penalties, which allowed Shields to constantly march up the field and get into their stride. Redcar did have periods of good play and were lifted when Jake Duddles made his return to team from the bench. Shields scored 7 tries in all. A tough game but Redcar are showing signs of improvement in every game, I’m sure the breakthrough will come if they stick together keep the moral up.
Final score North Shields 43 Redcar 5
