The game kicked off and Westoe with the slight wind behind them and they charged into the Redcar 22 and completely took Redcar by surprise and scored in the first couple of minutes and the try was converted, 0 – 7. Redcar recovered from that initial shock and started to play. The game was a bit stop start with both sides having good attacking moves and then forward passes or knock on’s giving the ball to the opposition. There were a lot of offsides from both teams, (this seemed to be the ref’s favourite law). The rest of the first half was pretty even, flanker Brad Smith was his usual self, charging about tackling and making breaks and Matty Curry was tackling like a demon, but the score remained the same.
Half Time Redcar 0 Westoe 7.
The game restarted and this time Redcar got off the mark first, Redcar’s forwards drove into the Westoe team and the sustained pressure led to No.8 Domonic Ayre scoring, it was converted by flyhalf Jacob Howie, 7 – 7. Redcar were strengthened as they brought on their subs, Shaun Hodgson, AJ Clarke and Damo Buck and on 18 mins centre Matty Curry scored a lovely try after some good driving play from the forwards, Jocob Howie again converted, 14 – 7. Unfortunately Matty was injured and had to be replaced. Redcar’s scum was completely dominant now and on 30 mins won a penalty, quite a long way out but in front of Westoe’s posts, they opted to kick for goal but the kick narrowly missed. On 35 mins Westoe scored their second try but missed the conversion, 14 – 12. In the last 5 mins Westoe tried to break Redcar’s defence but Redcar kept them out and hung on to Win.
Final Score Redcar 14 Westoe 12.
