Redcar Take the Points on the Big Stage

On a sunny but cold and windy afternoon Redcar travelled to the 26000 seater Mowden stadium, Darlington. Not the usual setting for a D and N 2 fixture. A small but enthusiastic crowd, however, created enough atmosphere despite the empty seats.
In short order Redcar found themselves 19 points down despite having the majority of play. In good positions and from well worked moves a series of unforced errors allowed the speedy and agile Mowden backs to make a number of try scoring runs. At this point things didn’t look good for a positive Redcar outcome.

However, Redcar gradually got themselves back into the game bringing the score back first of all to 19 – 5, 19 – 12 and then 19 – 17. DMP responded with a converted try bringing the score to 26 – 17.
Redcar kept up the pressure eventually running in another try to bring the score now to a closer 26 – 22. This set the scene for a last 10 minutes of Redcar pressure interspersed with some dangerous counter attacks from the hard running Fijian/Darlington backs. The culmination of this pressure resulted in a well worked Redcar try near the corner, 26 – 29. The Raging Bull (Ado) then converted this try from a very difficult touch line position.
A nervy 4/5 minutes then followed, threatened by some DMP pressure, before the official blew for time to give Redcar a well-deserved and well fought victory.

Redcar’s try scorers were Brad Smith, Jack Cook, Luke Watson, Lee Collins and Drew Reader, with Danny Addison adding 2 conversions.
At the end of the day this was a great advert and a great setting for D and N 1. Despite a difficult start credit goes to all the team. The forwards for some great rucking and being solid in the tight. The backs for taking the game to DMP at pace at all times.
