With a much changed side Redcar struggled to contain a strong Darlington team.

Darlington kicked off with a slight breeze behind them. For the first 15 mins they kept Redcar pinned down in their 22, but could not break through. Darlington No.15 got a yellow card for a high tackle, but it did not deter them and 2 mins later they scored a converted try, 0 – 7. They scored again on 20 mins, 0 – 14. Redcar had brief glimpses of opportunities to break through, but knock-ons or dropped passes stopped them. Second row Steve Johnson went off injured, just before half time then Darlington scored again 0 – 19.

Half Time Redcar 0 Darlington 19

Redcar restarted the game and from the kick Darlington gathered the ball and scored under the posts, 0 – 26. Redcar’s flyhalf Richie Young had gone off injured, which made Redcar’s task ever harder. On 45 mins Darlington scored again, 0 – 31. Then for the next 25 mins or so, what can only be described as unique, it was that the busiest man on the field was the referee taking names of players as he dished out 4 Yellow cards at various separate intervals, 3 to Darlington and 1 to Redcar. Darlington seemed determined to stop Redcar scoring, even if it meant giving away a penalty and a yellow card. Eventually Redcar did score a try, from centre James Fox and it was converted by Danny Addison, 7 – 31. On 78 mins Darlington got another try and the ref blew time after the conversion.
