With the wind blowing a hoolie, Sedgefield kicked off with it at their back.

With the wind blowing a hoolie, Sedgefield kicked off with it at their back. They used it well and kept Redcar on the defensive and won a penalty after only 6 mins, unfortunately the kick from in front of the posts blew wide and missed. Redcar made a few sorties into the Sedge half but dropped and forward passes gave the ball back to Sedge, who took the play back to Redcar’s 22. It was 30 mins later before anyone scored any points then Redcar’s speedy winger Luke Watson found a bit of space and raced away up the wing to score, Danny Addison converted, 7 - 0. Just a few mins later Luke again got the ball in Redcar’s 22 and weaved his way through half of Sedge’s team, to score a great try under the posts, Ado again converted it, 14 - 0. Then on 37 mins Redcar centre Matty Curry did the same from his own half, braking tackles as he burst through to score near the corner, 19 - 0.

Half Time Redcar 19 – Sedgefield 0

The game resumed and Redcar made a couple of substitutions and now with the wind, continued to pile on the points, on 45 mins flanker Drew Reader scored and fly half Richie Young took over the kicking duties and added the conversion, 26 - 0. Then five mins later substitute hooker Jack Cook finished off a series of forward drives to dive over near the corner, 31 - 0. Matty Curry scored his second try, after another great run from Luke Watson, Richie added the extras, 38 - 0. The game got a bit fractious and a couple of second rows one from each side, faced up to one another, handbags were brandished and the ref showed them both the yellow card. Redcar almost scored again but were held up over the line and from the drop out Redcar’s forward charged straight back towards the line and winger Luke was high tackled, a tap penalty was quickly taken and passed to Matty Curry who scored his hat-trick try, Richie again adding the con. 45 - 0. The game was almost over but Sedge who had battled all game scored a try in the dying minutes, the conversion was missed, but somehow it was shown in the final result.

Final Score Redcar 45 Sedgefield 7 ?

A great way to end Redcar’s triumphant half of the season and all credit to Sedgefield, who never gave up till the bitter end.
