Redcar Storm The Castle

Redcar kicked off on a reasonably calm day after Babet’s stormy few days but Redcar were still in a stormy mood and after only 3 minutes winger Lee Collins streaked up the touch line to score in the corner, 5 – 0. On 10 mins flyhalf Richie Young scored after a great break from centre Matty Curry, 10 – 0. Five mins later Redcar’s captain Ian Fox stormed through the Barny defence to score under the posts, winger Lee Collins duly converted, 17 - 0. Foxy had to leave the field injured and was replaced by Drew Reader. After 30 mins centre Brad Smith who was having his usual bustling game was also injured and had to be replaced. On 35 mins, winger Luke Bullman on his 1st team debut scored a great try, he caught a clearing kick from Barny and skirted around half of the Barny team to touch down in the corner, 22 – 0.

Redcar restated the game and this time it was Barny that reacted first and they quickly got into the Redcar 22 and from a scrum they drove for the line and their No.8 scored with only 5 mins played, 22 – 5. Redcar responded 5 mins later and hooker Jack Cook scored after another strong run from Matty Curry, lee Collins converted, 29 – 5. On 51 mins Matty Curry scored Redcar’s next try as he burst through and dived over, 34 – 5. On 69 mins Barny’s No.11 was shown the yellow card this did not help Barny’s cause and mins later Redcar’s scrum half cantered in and scored, 39 – 5. As the game drew to a close, centre Matty Curry who had had a storming game, weaved his way through a tiring Barny defence and deservedly scored his second try, 44 – 5.

Credit to Barnard Castle who competed to the very end and at times upset Redcar’s rhythm, they were unlucky and the score line could have been closer. Redcar debutantes Luke Bullman and Mathew Regan had good solid games and will only add to Redcar’s strength in depth. Well done to the whole squad.
