Redcar March On At Houghton

Redcar kicked off with the wind at their backs and it wasn’t long before they got in the scoring mood. After only 4 mins winger Danny Addison scored in the corner and converted his try with a great kick, 0 - 7. Houghton then took the game to Redcar with several good runs and Redcar were penalised for a few high tackles bringing a warning from the referee and on 11 minutes he lost patience and centre James Fox was the unlucky one to get a yellow card for Redcar’s persistent high tackles. Danny Addison had to leave the field with an ankle injury and was replaced with the strong running Michael ‘Sharky’ Hammond. The game swung one way then the other with both sides making ground but not bothering the score line, then on 35 mins Redcar’s captain caveman Ian Fox, crashed over from close distance, under the posts to score, unfortunately he too had to go off injured, full back Lee Collins took over the kicking duty from Ado and converted the try, 0 -14.

Houghton got the second half started and Redcar’s speedster Luke Watson scored 2 tries on 45 mins and 49 mins to take the score to 0 - 26. Redcar looked like they were now in complete control and on 55 mins scrum half Damian Buck scored the fifth try after another great break from Luke and following up by centre Matty Curry who passed the ball to Damo to score, 0 – 31. Houghton still battled on and on 73 mins were rewarded with a try, 5 – 31. Redcar struck back when the play went from end to end and former back row now converted to prop scored under the posts, Lee Collins added the extras, 5 – 38. As the game drew to a close in the dying mins Redcar’s Shaun Hodgson was yellow carded and Houghton took advantage and scored the final try.
