The issue has come about due to an unregistered player being selected for the away fixture at Winlaton on January 17th.
Whilst it is hugely regrettable, at no point did Redcar Rugby Club intend to play a player who was unregistered. Instead it came about due to a breakdown in communications between player and club, and said player was withdrawn from the team before kick off meaning Redcar fulfilled the fixture with a squad of 17.
However, the breakdown in communication came when said player had been already marked down on the official match card. Redcar Rugby Club have been made aware of the issue and will be making sure that this never happens again.
Following a review of the circumstances by the RFU and lengthy discussions between Redcar Rugby Club and the authority’s representatives we had every hope of a successful appeal but we have recently been informed that we are to be “docked” 5 league points in accordance with the penalties laid down in the RFU Regulations for playing an unregistered player.
Redcar Rugby Club would like to extend our apologies to fans and supporters and ensure everyone that the team are determined that the deduction will not halt the season and that we now move forward and we gain as many points as possible.
Obviously this news is a bitter blow to the club management, coaches, players and loyal supporters, especially coupled with the recent fire at the club.
However, at times like these the strength of the RRUFC Family will be severely tested and we will persevere on together.
