Redcar kicked off with the wind at their backs and for the first 5 mins or so the ball went back and forth between both teams, then from Redcar’s 22, flyhalf Jake Duddles put in a long kick downfield into the Houghton 22 and it was brilliantly chased by No.8 Domonic Ayre, who tackled the No.11 who lost the ball and Ayre retrieved it and passed to winger Ben Russell who in turn passed it back to Ayre who scored, it was converted by Danny Addison, 7 – 0.
Redcar continued to attack at every opportunity and after some great interplay between forwards and backs, Redcar’s other winger Craig Newlands strolled in at the corner, 12 – 0. Houghton stepped up their game and made several inroads into Redcar territory but Redcar’s defence kept them out. On 27 mins Redcar scored a third try from a lineout won by Neil Young and he drove it on and from the ensuing maul the other second row Drew Reader scored, this was converted by Addison, 19 – 0.
In the last 10 mins of the first half Fullback Danny Addison scored two more tries.

Five mins into the second half No.8 Domonic Ayre scored his 2nd try, as he scythed his way through the Houghton defence, it was converted by scum half Damian Buck, 36 – 0. Redcar’s scoring was finished off by a second try from second row Drew Reader, who was lurking on the wing, Romped in to score, 41 – 0. Houghton who had put on a spirited performance and never gave up, scored a consolation try in the final few mins, although the game seemed to run on almost to 90 mins.
