In form Redcar scored a point a minute in a storming performance at home.

Newton Aycliffe kicked off with a slight wind advantage but were hit by a hurricane from the off, as Redcar charged into an early lead when prop Andy Little caught Aycliffe napping, and he strolled in from the front of the lineout after 6 mins, 5 – 0. Four minutes later from Redcar’s 22 forwards and backs combined and winger Craig Newlands ran in for Redcar’s second and scrum half Damian Buck added the conversion, 12 – 0. From then on it was about every 5 or 6 mins that Redcar scored tries with Charlie Templeman, Mark Harrison, Craig Newlands and Andy Little all getting on the score sheet and Damian Buck converting two of them, so after only 30 mins the score was 36 – 0.

Aycliffe did score a try on 32 mins when from a lineout and a forward drive the No.6 squeezed in, in the corner, 36 – 5. From the restart Aycliffe tried to to attack again and when they were halted they kicked the ball downfield and Redcar counterattacked and centre Matty Curry cut loose and weaved his way from halfway evading all the Aycliffe defence, to score under the posts and this was converted, 43 – 5.

Half Time Redcar 43 Newton Aycliffe 5.

The start of the second half was delayed for 10 mins because the Referee had twisted his ankle at the end of the first half and could not continue, but luckily he was being assisted and assessed by another referee and he took over.
This disruption did not change Redcar’s scoring spree and after 12 mins Matty Curry once again cut through the Aycliffe players unopposed to score under the posts, that brought up 50 points. Once again from the restart, the ball reached winger Craig Newlands who scampered in for his hat-trick, 55 – 5. On 60 mins tempers frayed and a skirmish broke out and Redcar’s Joel Hatfield saw red and his game was over. Next to score was second row Drew Reader who was absolutely superb in taking the restarts (and there were lots of them), when Aycliffe spilled the ball it was pounced on by wing forward James Toward, who set it up and bullucking runs from Jonny Ryan and Cian Briggs made ground and Drew Reader finished it off, 62 – 5.Three more tries were scored by prop Cian Briggs, fullback Andy Benbow and centre cum No.8 Ben Durrans.

Final Score Redcar 83 Newton Aycliffe 5.
