In the bright sunshine at Redcar the home side run rampant.

It was Ladies Day at Redcar and 100+, wives, girlfriends and guests filled the club, Redcar kicked off with the crosswind slightly against them, but this did not hinder them and they scored after only 4 minutes, when the backs attacked up the wing and winger Charlie Templeman was caught just short of the try line but second row Neil Young picked up the loose ball and plunged over, Danny Addison converted, 7 – 0. Danny himself was the next to score on 22 mins when the ball was cleverly chipped through by fly half Jake Duddles and Danny caught the bouncing ball to score, 12 – 0. On 27 mins Redcar ran the ball from their own 22 and a great break from Josh Dixon took the play to half way and shipped on by Addison to Charlie Templeman to run in unopposed from 40 metres, Addison again adding the conversion, 19 – 0.
Neil Young got his second try when he grubber kicked the ball through towards the try line and it rebounded back from a Seghill defender and Neil once again picked it up and touched it down, for the bonus point, 24 – 0. Scrum half Damian Buck who was a thorn in Seghill’s side for the whole game, scored the next two tries as half time approached, Addison converted them both.

Halftime Redcar 38 Seghill 0

Seghill restarted the game and kept Redcar scoreless for about 15 mins until substitute winger Craig Newlands took to the field and he scored two tries in quick succession and Addison added the extras, bringing up 50 points. Then on 65 mins the ringmaster Neil Young, scored his hat-trick try with great bravado and a dive, much to the delight of the crowd, converted by Addison, 57 – 0.

By now Seghill were almost down and out, but they struggled on and their scrum was their only weapon, they had some rather rotund and weighty men, so they opted to scrummage whenever Redcar were penalised, which was a lot in the final 20 mins of the game. Redcar’s blindside forward Jacob Unwin scored a great try when he broke away from just inside the Seghill half and left their defenders standing, this was converted by Damian Buck, 64 - 0. Full back Andy Benbow finished the scoring for Redcar with a fine burst of speed and he evaded the tired tackling from Seghill, Damian Buck kicked the conversion, 71 – 0. Seghill did have the final say in injury time, as they pressed Redcar close to their line and got awarded penalty after penalty from the sympathetic referee, and having opted for scrum after scrum they eventually scored a pushover try which was converted, to give them 7 well deserved points.

Final Score Redcar 71 Seghill 7.
