Redcar had a much changed team and were disrupted even more by 4 late cry-offs They kicked off and straight away Rockcliff started to rack up the points with tries on 5, 14, 20, 25 and 30 minutes, giving them a healthy lead 0 – 29. Then Redcar who were facing a record defeat, struck back just before halftime, when prop Cian Briggs went storming up the wing and scored and fullback Joe Cooke kicked the conversion, 7 – 29.
Halftime Redcar 7 Rockcliff 29
The game restarted just like the first half with Rockcliff scoring 2 more tries in 10 mins, 7 – 41. Rockcliff got over confident and players got a bit greedy, they gave away lots of penalties and started blaming the Ref, this allowed Redcar more possession and on 60 mins Redcar’s captain and scrum half Brad Stovell, scored Redcar’s 2nd try this was also converted by Joe Cooke, 14 – 41. Ten mins later a clever chip kick from Jake Duddles bounced kindly for winger Jamie Butler and he caught it and scored, 19 – 41. Rockcliff hit back with another try on 75 mins, 19 – 48 but Redcar had the last word, when centre Matty Curry cut through and outpaced the chasing defence to score under the posts for a bonus point try and Joe Cooke kicked the conversion on the final whistle.
Fulltime Redcar 26 Rockcliff 48.
A fantastic performance by all the squad, a dogged attitude earned them a much needed and maybe a vital bonus point, the first team to score a 4 try bonus point against them this season.
