Darlington’s bish, bash, bosh tactics no match for Redcar’s rapier like performance.

Redcar kicked off with the wind behind them but they seemed to be asleep and Darlington’s rampaging forwards charged on and Redcar missed tackle after tackle then after 5 mins from a scrum Darlington broke away to score, 0 – 5. It took another 10 mins before Redcar shook themselves into action and as Darlington were attacking in the Redcar 22 the ball went loose and Redcar quickly pounced on it and began to counterattack it went the several pairs of hands before 2nd row Drew Reader charged for the line, he almost cocked it up but managed to get it to winger Matty Curry who scored, 5 – 5.
On 25 mins a Darlington player was given a yellow card and as Redcar’s confidence grew they scored a second try, Danny Addison squeezing in, in the corner and he converted it with a great kick, 12 – 5. As halftime approached Redcar scored two more tries, from prop Steve “Bully” Wilson and flyhalf Jake Duddles, Danny Addison converted the latter, 24 – 5. That secured the bonus point.

Half Time Redcar 24 Darlington 5

As the game resumed Redcar continued to dominate the play and on 45 mins centre Andy Benbow scored, 29 – 5. Then Darlington came back into the game, with the wind advantage they camped in the Redcar 22 and after several forward drives and a couple of penalties they scored and Redcar’s centre Dennis Hunt was given a yellow card, 29 – 12. On 60 mins Redcar after some good forward drives the ball came out to Jake Duddles who shipped it on to the ever dangerous Matty Curry who scored in the corner, 34 – 12. Now Redcar had their tails up and ran the ball at every opportunity, from their own 22 they charged up field and backs and forwards combined well before Matty Curry sped away and fed wing forward Dominic Ayre, who also was having another storming game, to score and Danny Addison converted, 41 – 12, The game was nearing its close but in the last 10 mins there was still plenty of action, first Brad Stovell scored for Redcar, 46 – 12 then Darlington hit back and scored from a push over try, 46 – 17. Redcar had the final word, when just on full time, Dominic Ayre backing up a fine break from Jake Duddles received the final pass and went in near the posts and Danny Addison converted, 53 – 17.

Full Time Redcar 53 Darlington 17.
