Brave Redcar Go Down Fighting
By Dave Pearson
Redcar show improvement but fitness still an issue.
Redcar travelled to Hartlepool and were determined to show their enthusiasm and commitment to club. They started well and put Pool under pressure as they attacked their line, the forwards and backs combined to reach pool’s 22 and veteran centre Paul Evans cleverly dummied the Pool defence and scored a great try to open the scoring, it was converted by fullback Danny Addison, 0 – 7. This woke Pool up and they hit back with an unconverted try, 5 – 7. Hartlepool took control and scored more points and Redcar’s cause was not helped when No.8 Steve Johnson received a yellow card on 30 mins, but Redcar scored another try just before halftime through the forwards pressing the Pool line and Prop Cian Briggs smashed over, this was also converted by Danny Addison.
The second half belonged mainly to Hartlepool as they ran in several more tries, but Redcar were rewarded for their doggedness and did score a penalty try.
Final Score Hartlepool 62 Redcar 21.
Well done to the Redcar squad who are showing signs of promise and a never say die attitude, but lots to work on, including fitness, this would greatly improve their chances and results.
