DMP Elizabethans kicked off on a foggy but remarkably windless day at Mackinlay Park. After 7 mins some great driving play from the forwards and a good steal from prop Matty Regan, the ref gave a penalty close to DMP’s line and a quick tap and go saw Redcar’s captain Ian Fox score in the corner, 5 - 0. Redcar continued to dominate the play but a knock on in the centre from Redcar gave the ball to DMP who made the most of it and scored under the posts, 5 - 7. On 20 mins Redcar missed a penalty kick, but 5 mins later winger Luke Watson scored in the far corner, in the fog, 10 - 7. Then on 32 mins Redcar’s backs and forwards made lots of ground, Matty Regan again was prominent and Ian fox got his second try in the clubhouse corner, 15 - 7. On the stroke of half time, flanker Jacob Unwin scored the try of the game with a great burst through the defending players, to score under the posts, this was converted by Danny Addison, 22 - 7.

Redcar restarted the game and on 43 mins Redcar were on the scoreboard again, when a cleverly placed chip kick over the defence was chased by Luke Watson to score, 27 - 7. The game was hampered by the conditions and both sides dropped the ball and knocked on several times, but Redcar always had the upper hand and on 55 mins winger Luke Bullman scored, the conversion was missed, it was not a day for the kickers, 32 - 7. The rest of game went ‘to and fro’ with neither side managing to add to the scoreline.
