Seaham kicked off with a very strong wind advantage behind them and they used it to keep Redcar penned down in their own 22. Eventually they won a penalty in front of the posts and duly kicked it, 0 – 3. Redcar constantly attacked the Seaham half with driving forwards pick and go’s, keeping the ball in hand because of the wind. After 10mins when they got to touching distance of the line the Seaham flyhalf killed the move by deliberately handling the ball while laying on the ground and the ref gave a penalty and him a yellow card. Then from another penalty, Hooker Jack Cook took a quick tap and dived over to score, 5 – 3. On 18mins centre Matty Curry put in a great rumbustious run and slipped the ball to scrum half Damian Buck, who scampered clear to run in and score, Danny Addison converted, 12 – 3. On 30mins Seaham had another penalty attempt but hit the post. Seaham had several more drives at the Redcar line and were awarded penalties and just before halftime they opted for a scrum and scored, 12 – 8.
Half Time Redcar 12 Seaham 8
Redcar restarted the game and after only 6mins Seaham transgressed again and their Prop No.3 got a yellow card after some stern words from the ref. On 50 mins from a tap penalty near Seaham’s line Jack Cook went close again and when the ball came back to centre James Fox he dummied the oncoming defence and walked in and scored, Addison again converting, 19 – 8. From then on Redcar got into full stride and with the wind now behind them they scored three more tries, from winger Luke Watson (2) and back row Jacob Unwin after a neat little tap kick through the defence by flyhalf Richie Young, and Jacob ran on to it, through the walking Seaham backs, Danny boy converted all three, 40 – 8. In the final minute of the game Seaham scored the final points with a consolation try, which was well deserved.
