Redcar kicked off against a slight wind and both sides shared the play with short attacks followed by losing the ball in the contact. Whitby were first on the board with a converted try after 8 mins, 0 – 7. This seemed to shake Redcar into action and after 15 mins and several sorties, prop forward James Toward broke through some half hearted Whitby tackles to score near the posts, 5 – 7. On 19 mins winger Luke Watson followed up a kick from flyhalf Richie Young and kicked the ball on twice and raced after it, to touch it down and score, fullback Lee Collins converted, 12 – 7. 10 mins later after some good driving play from the forwards, centre Matty Curry made a great break up the middle and passed to Lee Collins who ran up the wing and out stripped the chasing defence to score in the corner, 17 – 7. As halftime approached, the big forwards Nathan Gibson and Shaun Hodgson bullocked up the field and then prop James Toward broke through making ground and passed to scrum half Damian Buck who romped in under the posts, Lee Collins added the extras, 24 – 7.
