Redcar starting the game strong and from kick off attacked Sedge. Their first try came after some strong forward carries before the ball found its way out to the wing, Danny Addison giving the final pass for Luke Watson to walk over the line from 2m out, 0 - 5. Redcar were next to strike again, when forward play got Redcar close to the try line, this time coming in to help at the breakdown Luke was able to pick and go round the edges to score, 0 – 10. The rest of the second half was then all Sedgefield, playing their usual game, working possession well and crashing with their forwards. A well worked move off their 9 saw them steal a try,7 – 10. They then slotted over a penalty before half time taking the score to 10 -10.

The second restarted with the Redcar forwards taking control as the replacements off the bench made an impact, unfortunately chances went missing as Redcar struggled to get over the line. Redcar were first to break the second half deadlock as centre Mathew Curry weaved his way through the Sedge defence to score a superb try from 60m out, 10 – 17. Mathew Curry was next to score again after taking the opportunity to dive on a spilled ball, 10 – 24. Redcar’s final try came from the captain Ian Fox after finding the outside shoulder of the Sedge centre No.13, 10 – 31. The game was closed out with Sedge back in control, their strong forward carries once again picking up a couple of tries.
Final Score Sedgefield 22 Redcar 31
Always an interesting game up at Sedge in difficult conditions, but this was a big win for the boys. They now look towards next week against a newly promoted Houghton who have picked up some big wins.
